Thermostat Wars: How To Achieve Comfortable Temperatures In Your Home

Table of Contents

We all know that the “Thermostat Wars” can be a real struggle in the home. Everyone in the house has a different temperature that they are comfortable with, especially during the  winter months. Homeowners often ask us where they should keep their thermostat set and if there is an ideal temperature for their home

Watch our Logan Services expert, Chris M., talk about where your thermostat should be set and how you can feel warmer without bumping up the temperature.

What Temperature Should Your Thermostat Be Set At?

There is no specific temperature to keep your thermostat set at; it depends on the comfort level of the people living inside. Something that will help you stay comfortable is keeping a steady heating schedule. Programming the temperature (varying a couple of degrees) while you are home or away will save you money and energy in the long run.

How Can You Add Extra Heat To Your Home?

The thermostat may be set at a comfortable temperature, but if you feel like you need extra heat somewhere in the house, you can invest in a whole-house humidifier. A humidifier works by adding moisture into the air of your home. The rise in humidity levels will not only help the air feel warmer, but it will help to alleviate dry conditions in the cold, winter months.

What Should You Avoid During Heating Season?

Keeping the heat in your home is essential for that comfort factor but also for saving money. There are some things you can do to help save energy/money and stay comfortable:

  • Failure To Lock Windows – Close and lock windows tightly. This will help eliminate cold drafts and air leaks.
  • Adjusting The Thermostat Drastically – It doesn’t hurt to turn the temperature down 2 or 3 degrees when leaving and coming home, but you want to avoid drastic temperature changes. Extreme temperature changes (5+ degrees) can put unnecessary stress on your heating system when you arrive back home.
  • Closing Curtains – Keeping your curtains open will let the sunlight in to help warm up your home.
  • Neglecting Your Furnace Filter – Changing your furnace filter regularly (every month) will help to keep your HVAC system running efficiently. If you leave your furnace filter clogged, it will block airflow and can cause system operation issues.

Keep your comfort level in mind when setting the temperature for your home. If you feel that your HVAC system isn’t running efficiently (at your set temperature), give Logan Services a call. Our fast, friendly team can help in DaytonColumbus, and Cincinnati.
